Dental implants are an enticing option to replace missing or removed teeth. They are better than other alternatives like bridges since no additional teeth have to be altered to place the new tooth.
The entire implant procedure is performed during a few months. The first part of the process is to set up the implant itself, where a titanium screw is placed into the jaw bone. A cut is made in the gum so that the implant can be placed. Several implants can be positioned at once if needed. After the implants are placed the gums are sutured.
Implants need about 3-6 months to heal, and throughout this time the jaw bone will form around the implant in a procedure called osseointegration. During this recovery time you can have a temporary replacement so that you can eat and have an esthetically pleasing smile.
Once the implant has healed, the restoration of a single tooth or complete prosthetic can now begin.
After a brief period of getting use to the implant it will look and feel just like your very own teeth.
